Czech Women Win Billie Jean King Cup Again After Eight Years

After eight years, the Czech Republic has won the Billie Jean King Cup again. In the final in Shenzhen, Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková secured the title in the two singles matches.

The Czech women’s tennis team has won the prestigious Billie Jean King Cup 2026 again after eight years. In the final in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, the team defeated Ukraine 2–0 and secured the title after the two singles matches.

For the Czech Republic, it is the seventh title since the split of Czechoslovakia in 1993 and the 12th triumph overall in the prestigious team competition when the successes of the former Czechoslovakia are also included. The Czech team last won the competition in 2018.

In the final against Ukraine, captain Barbora Strýcová selected her strongest singles line-up. Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková then ensured that the concluding doubles match no longer needed to be played.

Muchová Puts Czech Republic Ahead – Nosková Secures the Title

Karolína Muchová claimed the first point. The world number eight comfortably defeated Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalininová 6–2, 6–3. After 70 minutes, she converted match point to give the Czech Republic a 1–0 lead.

Linda Nosková, the world number six, then faced world number seven Elina Svitolina. Nosková initially made the poorer start and trailed 1–3 after an early break of serve. The Czech then turned the match around, winning five games in a row and taking the opening set 6–3.

In the second set, both players dominated their service games. The decision had to come in a tie-break. Nosková eventually prevailed 7–5 and, after a total of one hour and 35 minutes, converted her third match point to seal a 6–3, 7–6 victory.

That meant the Czech Republic’s overall victory was secured after the two singles matches. The planned doubles match featuring Marie Bouzková and Kateřina Siniaková against Kalininová and Ljudmyla Kičenok was not played.

Historic Success for Captain Strýcová

The triumph is also particularly special for captain Barbora Strýcová. She is now among the few players to have won the competition both as an active tennis player and later as team captain.

The Czech Republic and the former Czechoslovakia now have a record of 12 victories and just one defeat in finals of the team competition.
