Skiers in the Czech Republic this winter will find it easier to buy ski passes online at some resorts or have the chance to try a new run. Behind the scenes, operators are upgrading their equipment so they can make snow in time for the start of the season, even during shorter spells of freezing weather.

Ski resorts in the Czech Republic are preparing for winter 2026/27 with new runs, more modern snow cannons and additional facilities for families. Members of the Czech ski resort association AHS ČR are investing more than one billion crowns. According to the association, it is one of the highest sums its members have ever spent on a winter season.

New Cable Car and Two Runs in Špindlerův Mlýn

At 595 million crowns, the link between the Svatý Petr and Medvědín ski areas is the largest investment project of the season. The new Audi Line Přehradní cable car is due to enter service this winter. Skiers will be able to move between the two areas via the new Přehradní and Lesní runs.

At Ještěd near Liberec, the operator has modernised the lower station of the Skalka cable car and expanded the snow park.

Around 360 Million Crowns for Snowmaking Systems

Czech ski resorts are investing around 360 million crowns in modernising their snowmaking systems. Operators aim to make better use of increasingly short spells of freezing weather with more powerful snow cannons and additional reservoirs.

In Špindlerův Mlýn, 50 million crowns has gone towards modernising the system at Svatý Petr. Lipno is investing 35 million crowns in upgrading its snowmaking system and carrying out groundworks. SkiResort Černá hora–Pec is buying 20 new snow cannons.

Nahoru Resort Rokytnice has acquired three SnowFactory units that can produce snow even at temperatures above freezing. In Dolní Morava, the operator uses Oloid technology to cool the water in its reservoirs, making it easier to produce snow in warmer weather. Millions of crowns are also being invested in more modern and energy-efficient systems at Klínovec and in Zadov, Deštné v Orlických horách, Červená Voda and Malá Úpa.

New Reservoirs to Reduce Pressure on Mountain Streams

The planned reservoirs are expected to almost double water storage capacity for snowmaking in the long term. The largest expansions are planned at Klínovec and Ještěd. Other projects include those in Rokytnice nad Jizerou, at Plešivec, in Malá Úpa and at Špičák in the Bohemian Forest.

In future, up to half of the water used for snowmaking is expected to come from reservoirs. According to the association, this will allow ski resorts to draw less water from mountain streams while still getting their runs ready in time for the start of the season.

New Piste Groomers and Digital Ski Pass Sales

SkiResort Černá hora–Pec has bought four new piste groomers. The ski resorts at Ještěd and Plešivec and in Bublava have also upgraded their piste grooming fleets.

Lipno is adding new ski pass machines and revamping its online shop. Pustevny, Bublava and SKI Bílá are also expanding digital ski pass sales and their on-site electronic systems.

More Facilities for Families and Overnight Guests

A 70-metre-long magic carpet lift for children is being built in Deštné v Orlických horách. Dolní Morava has upgraded its facilities for evening tobogganing.

Monínec ski resort has invested 90 million crowns in renovating the rooms at Basecamp and building 14 new apartments. In Malá Úpa, the Hořec centre is being completed and will include a cinema, a museum, hire facilities and accommodation. Lipno now has a new parking area for motorhomes.

Czech Ski Resort Association AHS ČR

The Czech ski resort association AHS ČR was founded in 2013. Its members include cable car operators, representatives of 20 municipalities, suppliers of technology and equipment for ski resort operations, and other organisations from mountain regions.
