Prague is preparing for one of the liveliest nights of the year. When the Golden City shines in festive lights and the streets fill with visitors from around the world, a special mix of anticipation, cheerful energy and wintry atmosphere emerges.

The historic streets and squares of Prague provide an impressive backdrop for ringing in the New Year. Many of the Prague Christmas markets remain open until late, inviting guests to stroll, enjoy mulled wine and sample traditional dishes. They are among the most popular meeting spots – both for locals and visitors to the city.

As the evening progresses, the atmosphere becomes increasingly vibrant. Numerous bars, clubs and restaurants experience high demand and offer events ranging from elegant dinners to lively parties. There is something to suit every taste when seeing out the year 2025.

Safety and practical advice

As in any major city, particular caution is advised in crowded areas. It is recommended to plan your journey home in advance. Ride-hailing services and taxi apps are usually overloaded on New Year’s Eve and more expensive than on ordinary days. In general, visitors should avoid hailing spontaneous taxis on the street.

Care is also needed when it comes to exchange offices or spontaneous offers – inflated prices and unreliable operators are unfortunately common tourist traps.

Where to celebrate? Here are a few of our recommendations.

Since many venues become fully booked early, it is worth reserving in good time. Nearly all of the following places are centrally located and well suited for a successful New Year’s celebration:

Clubs

Food & Drinks

Further gastronomic tips can be found in the new MICHELIN Guide 2025, which for the first time presents the culinary diversity of the entire Czech Republic. New this year: the country has received its first two-star restaurant.

Activities before the big countdown

Those who wish to make use of the day before the party have plenty of options: the digital gallery Signal Space, Prague Zoo or the Botanical Garden offer diverse programmes for families, couples and friends.

A final note

As in previous years, fireworks are prohibited in the historic Old Town, along the Vltava River, in city parks and near hospitals and social facilities. Visitors should take this into account when planning their evening.
