Kbelská Street in Prague to Fully Reopen Earlier Than Planned
Construction work is expected to be completed as early as Thursday evening – city thanks road users and local residents for their patience

The heavily used Kbelská Street in Prague will fully reopen to traffic on Thursday evening. The renovation work will therefore be completed around two days earlier than originally planned.
Following the completion of the renovation work, the heavily used Kbelská Street in Prague will fully reopen to traffic in the early evening today, Thursday, 13 August. The closure will therefore end around two days earlier than originally planned.
Work began on 2 July. During the construction period, traffic along a section of Kbelská was directed through a so-called “virtual tunnel”. All exits remained closed. In the direction of the D8 motorway, motorists could only exit onto the motorway or towards Letňany, while in the opposite direction, only the exit to Novopacká was available.
According to those responsible, the schedule was shortened thanks to the considerable efforts of the construction workers, good coordination and favourable weather conditions. Despite the high temperatures, work had progressed according to plan over the past few weeks.
The renovation had recently prompted various media reports, comments and speculation about the progress of the construction work. However, the early completion now announced shows that the work proceeded according to the planned schedule.
Those responsible thanked the contractors, construction workers, planners, technical construction supervisors, coordinators and everyone else involved. Special thanks also went to motorists and residents of the surrounding districts, who had to cope with traffic restrictions and diversions during the construction work.
Kbelská Street connects the D8, D10 and D11 motorways and therefore performs a key role as a substitute for the still-missing section of the Prague Ring Road.
