Essential construction work to strengthen the bridge structure on Hlávka Bridge will begin in mid-July. Until the end of August, motorists should expect traffic disruption, while tram passengers will face a complete suspension of services across the bridge.
From 11 July 2026, Prague's Road Administration (TSK) will begin essential repair works on Hlávka Bridge (Hlávkův most). The construction works will cause restrictions to both road and tram traffic until 31 August.
The works are necessary due to the condition of the reinforced concrete slabs in the transition section between the historic part of the bridge, dating from 1911, and the extension completed in 1962. Inspections identified corrosion damage, making it necessary to strengthen the load-bearing structure.

According to TSK, the existing concrete slabs will be cleaned after the road surface has been removed and reinforced with a new reinforced concrete structure. This method is intended to avoid the complete removal of the tram tracks and shorten the construction period.
Traffic restrictions until the end of August
For road traffic, the carriageway towards Holešovice will be reduced to a single lane. A 216-metre-long mobile safety barrier will be installed to protect the construction site. The carriageway towards the city centre will remain fully open.

Tram services across Hlávka Bridge will be completely suspended in both directions. No replacement bus service will be provided. During the construction works, the tram track bed will serve as a construction site and for the transport of materials and the removal of demolition waste.
Works coordinated with other major construction projects
TSK has deliberately scheduled the start of the works during the summer holidays to minimise the impact on traffic. The project has also been coordinated with other infrastructure works across Prague.
The construction works will begin immediately after the end of the Metro closure between Florenc and Pražského povstání, which lasts from 4 to 10 July. They have also been coordinated with the renovation of the ceiling structure in the entrance hall of Prague's main railway station, carried out by the Czech Railway Administration, which begins on 13 July.
TSK is asking motorists and passengers for patience and increased caution in the area of the construction site and recommends checking the latest traffic arrangements before travelling.
